Short story: I'm Tessa. I'm a writer and community builder with a love of technology, design and social entrepreneurship.

Longer story: I have a degree in journalism and have spent my career storytelling in various content positions for agencies, startups and non-profits.

I spent my childhood in small town Wal-Mart headquarter land, but graduated high school from a class of seven in China. I have a degree in journalism, a big case of wanderlust and currently reside in Portland, OR, with my husband and dog.

I write about startups, design, social innovation and entrepreneurs. I like to build communities around the same. Some of my favorite projects include:

  • Co-founding Utah Tech Week, Utah's first technology conference. I fundraised, worked with partners and vendors, hosted a hackathon and sold out the event. It was a whirlwind and total blast.
  • Managing content for a global crowdfunding campaign to support Gaza Sky Geeks, Gaza's first and most vibrant co-working hub. I currently work with an internationally dispersed team comprised of people from Google, Mercy Corps and AngelHack. We tell the story of entrepreneurs in Gaza and rally to get Silicon Valley investors, influentials and startup enthusiasts to donate to help this technology incubator thrive and provide a place of hope, despite closed borders and the world's worst economy.
